Healthy Lifestyle Program
The Healthy Lifestyle Program provides demonstration and education on proper nutrition and physical activity for good health and is designed to fight obesity in Central Louisiana. The goal of this program, through physician referral, community tools, and workplace education, is to provide Central Louisiana residents with resources to lead healthy lifestyles. This program is coordinated by a registered and licensed dietitian.
The Healthy Lifestyle Program is FREE and easy to join, but requires a sincere readiness to make a lifestyle change and commitment to a minimum of 3- to 6-months in the program. Simply contact your doctor or human resources representative for a referral.
How it Works
Physician Referral:
Physicians assess a potential client’s need to make a lifestyle change and their level of readiness to change. Once Healthy Lifestyle Program readiness is determined by physician and client, the physician will send a referral to the HLP Coordinator (registered dietitian). The client will be contacted for a one-on-one consultation with the dietitian and exercise specialist for personalized meal planning and exercise.
Workplace Education:
The Healthy Lifestyle Program is also designed for Cenla businesses. The program coordinator performs a worksite readiness assessment and provides a nutrition and physical activity education program geared to that worksite’s specific interests/needs. Employees can be referred through their HR department for one-on-one counseling with the dietitian and exercise specialist for personalized meal planning and exercise.
Nutrition Counseling with the Registered Dietitian:
We know that change doesn’t happen overnight, so this program is designed to work with clients for at least 3- to 6-months, tracking their progress – eating habits, behavior changes, weight and inches lost, as well as growing in their knowledge on proper nutrition and physical activity. The dietitian will assess the needs of each client and work together to make realistic and healthy goals, such as, learning what the food groups are, weight loss strategies, learning healthy meal planning and preparation, and how to be more physically active, etc.
Physical Activity and Follow-ups with the Exercise Specialist:
Once the client and the dietitian establish goals and a plan to meet those goals, the exercise specialist will monitor and track the client’s progress. The exercise specialist will ensure the plan is being followed and clients are getting the appropriate care. The exercise specialist also provides clients with individualized, easy to follow exercise routines for the home, gym, outdoors, etc.
